Question | Answer |
What's the difference between a Quest and an objective? |
An objective is a specific piece of learning that an admin wants a learner to achieve. A quest is a structured learning experience that includes one or more objectives. It brings those objectives together into a single assigned piece of learning for the learner to complete |
What marks a Quest as complete? | The Quest is marked as complete when the learner has completed all the objectives associated with the quest. |

How many objective types can an admin select for a Quest? |
We do not restrict admins to only having one objective type per Quest. An admin can select multiple objective types. |
What happens when new content is added to the Quest? |
Learners who have already completed the quest won't be required to complete the newly added content. Their quest status will remain marked as complete. |
Does progress in guided learning carry over into Quests? | No, content completed in Guided learning (Courses) does not contribute to Quests/Learn/Explore. |
Can Admins create an assessment in Quests? | No, you cannot create an “only assessment” experience for learners in Quests. However, for each vulnerability/objective selected by the admin, we provide a Quiz that is presented in assessment mode (hints turned off). This approach allows learners to be assessed incrementally after each topic, rather than having one combined assessment at the end of a large course. This approach provides a more focused and streamlined learning experience. |
What are all the different states of a Quest? | All different statuses are listed here |
How does the “Most Common” objective work? | For each language, we have an applicable standard which we use to drive the prioritisation of content. For example, for Java Spring, we use the OWASP Top 10 for web applications as its most applicable standard. From that standard, we select the most common sub-categories:

How does the “Most Common” objective work for learners with multiple languages? |
If a learner increases the number of languages they select from different language families, they will see an increased number of topics to complete. Example: An admin has set up “Most Common 3”:

Can I set up a Quest to run indefinitely? | Currently, Quests require a fixed end date so that the platform can determine whether teh Quest has been completed. We’re building the ability to set relative end dates to better support ongoing onboarding use case. This will allow Quests to run indefinitely, with learners required to complete them within a set timeframe (30, 60, or 90 days). |
Who chooses the programming language for Quests? | Learners choose the programming languages they use for production code when they first access Quests. Based on this selection, the platform automatically delivers training that's relevant to both the chosen languages and the vulnerabilities targeted by the admin. This ensures a personalised and practical learning experience tailored to each learner's needs. |
Can a learner start a Quest in one language and complete it in another? | Yes, provided the languages are in the same "family" (related languages). |
Can Admins choose who is assigned to a Quest? | Yes, admins have the flexibility to assign a quest either to the entire company or to specific teams. To learn more about how users are notified when a quest is assigned, please refer to this article |
If a Quest is assigned to a team, will new learners added to that team also be assigned to the Quest? | Yes, when a Quest is assigned to a team, both current and future members of that team will automatically be assigned to the Quest. |
Are new users automatically assigned to Quests when onboarded? | Yes, if there is a Quest assigned to the entire company or to the team the learner is onboarded into, they will automatically be assigned to the Quest. |
What is the refresh period? | The refresh period is positioned to help learners understand when they should “refresh” their training on a piece of content on the platform. This is a global setting that is set to 12 months for all customers. |
What reporting is available? | |
If a learner chooses multiple languages for Quests, can admins see the completion status for each language separately? |
Completion is tracked at the topic level, not by language. If a Quest is set up using Most Common 3 and the learner selects two web-based languages, they can complete the first part of the Quest in one language and the second part in the other. Since content is applicable to both, learners have the flexibility to switch between them. Admins can view selected languages in the ‘Quests’ report and see each learner’s primary language in the ‘Learning Activity’ report |
If a learner changes their language after completing a Quest, will the quest still show as complete despite it being completed in a language that is no longer in their selected languages? | Currently, no. If a learner removes a language from their profile after completing a Quest in that language but before the Quest's end date, it will no longer appear as complete. This is because the topic and Quest are no longer relevant to the learner. |
