If you would like to learn more about how to bulk edit a group of assessments within the same screen, instead of editing them individually, look no further. This article covers everything you need to know about how to bulk edit assessments.
Note: This feature can only be accessed through the end-of-course activities section in Courses and when editing the assessments section of a Program.
How to access the Bulk edit assessments feature
Accessing through Courses
- Find the course with the assessments that need to be edited and click the "End-of-course activity" tab
- Click the "Bulk edit assessments" button
Note: The bulk edit assessments feature will only apply to the assessments selected as an end-of-course activity in the specific course chosen.
Accessing through Programs
- Navigate to program management and open the program with the assessments you would like to edit
- Click "info" on the node with the assessments, and click the "Bulk edit assessments" button to open the bulk edit assessments window

How to Bulk Edit Assessments
Now it's time to bulk edit assessments. Below we will share more details about how you can effectively use this feature.
Step 1
After landing on the 'bulk edit the assessments' page through either Courses or Programs, click "Edit" in the top right corner to edit the assessments.
Step 2
Now you can use the left-hand panel (Default settings) to edit the settings of the associated assessments.
Things to note:
1. The changes you make on the left-hand side will only affect assessments that don't have their own custom version of this configuration/setup. If an assessment has its own custom start date, time limit, passing score...etc, you need to click the 'Reset to default' button so that it inherits the default configuration
For example, setting the start date to May 31, 2024, will only affect assessments with no start date. Assessments with existing custom start dates will remain unchanged. If you want all assessments to have the same start date, just click the 'Reset to default' button under the "Start Date" tile of these assessments
2. Some changes will result in creating a new version of the assessment (for ex. changing the time limit), in which case you need to switch on the "Create new assessment version" option before you can save your changes

There are also 5 filters available to help you navigate through Assessments with potential issues that require your attention.
Filter |
Description |
All |
This filter shows all assessments within the course or program selected. It highlights any setting exceptions, validation errors, and missing references...etc |
Setting exceptions |
This filter shows all courses that have different settings in comparison to the default settings on the left-hand side. |
Errors |
This filter shows any errors that would prevent an assessment from being published. These errors might include issues like a start date set after the finish date. |
Shared |
This filter shows any of the assessments that are shared with other courses or programs. |
Missing references |
This filter shows assessments that have a newer version available. These assessments are superseded, the new version should be added. |
When filtering by Missing references in 'bulk assessments edit' via Program Management, you can update the superseded assessment to the current active version by clicking a "Fix" button. However, if you are accessing 'bulk assessments edit' via Course Management you will need to go back into the course and update the assessment via end-of-course activity tab
- You will also have the option to access an individual assessment within the list by selecting "manage assessment" which will take them to the edit assessment view for that particular assessment
- Tiles shown under each assessment will show the current settings on the individual assessment, if this looks unavailable or "greyed out" this means that the setting for the assessment is identical to the default settings
- If the tile looks selectable and has a "reset to default" button clickable this means that this setting for the assessment is different from the default settings, you can click the "reset to default" button to change the setting to match the default settings.
